WhatsApp is the Ferrari of database engagement given its super high engagement rates compared to any other platform, and like driving a supercar there is extra care that needs to be taken to avoid a high-speed and horrendous crash!

One way to think about is Email is the Toyota of bulk engagement, WhatsApp is the FerrariEnter some text...

And like most super cars, more care needs to be taken with WhatsApp than EDMs.

Prevention

Follow our Best Practice guidelines for creating a campaign.

Here are the 3 most important things to do.

  1. Ensure recipients have opted in to receive messages from your company. More from WhatsApp on that here. Be expected.
  2. Our experience shows for a well written message about about 1-2% of recipients will express interest (eg, RSVP to an event or agree to take a call from a consultant) on whatever you're selling. So if you're looking for 10-15 bookings, create a list of 1000-1500 contacts. Be targeted.
  3. Use names and numbers that have recently engaged with your brand and, again, opted in to receive messages from you. The past 12-18 months is a good guide. Be current.
  4. Show them a similar product to that they've previously expressed interest in. Be relevant.

Cure

Despite best efforts, sometimes the recipients of WhatsApp messages may Block or Report your number if they don't have it saved in their contacts and dont feel they should be receiving it, rightly or wrongly.

Although WhatsApp doesn't disclose how many messages need to be Blocked or Reported for them to flag or restrict the account, the good news is its counted on an absolute, and not a percentage, basis and thus if there are warning signs, it's possible to pause campaigns until the quality rating recovers.

If there is an issue, the Quality Rating of the number will be switched to Flagged or Restricted.

Our recommendation is to pause a campaign as soon as it's showing a rating of anything other than Medium or High. In the worst cases campaigns can be paused for up to 7 days for the number rating to recover.

Resolving Issues

If the account is restricted for any reason that you believe is not fair, fear not, we do have the ability to appeal it with Facebook directly via their usual support channels.
